Born in Lubbock in 1957 I started out with a curiosity that often got me in trouble. Watching my father work as a pediatrician gave me a window into caring for people. When not in the assistant principal's office I enjoyed playing trumpet and challenging authority. As I graduated high school I was told to "find work" as I was not college material with my low grades and poor test scores. I started at Texas Tech and, once I realized that I wasn't stupid, I simplified my life and greatly improved my academic scores. I later graduated with almost perfect grades in both my Master's and Doctoral programs. Married in 1984 my wife started her many moves with me as we lived in Indiana, Temple, Dallas, and finally returned to Lubbock in 1990. I am most pleased to return to my hometown and work with my community. I just hope that I don't run into my old assistant principal.
